What Standards?

Standards.

We have them for everything we do, we’re just not consistent with them. In one area we say we want to be the best, because God deserves our best. Then in the next breath, we’re claiming it’s okay to be mediocre in some areas, because we can only focus on a few things.

Both perspectives are actually right, that’s not my issue. My issue is how we back into any excuse we can get our hands on to retrofit our beliefs to our actions.

Example. We decide we’re going to start killing our inner-fatty with regular exercise…great idea. We commit to doing it, because we remind ourselves that God wants us to be healthy in every area of life. That includes being fit physically. Then we fall off the wagon a couple weeks later and somehow convince ourselves of 1 of 3 things:

1. God’s okay with me just the way I am. Which is true, but c’mon…
2. I probably bit off a lil’ more than I could chew. Might be true, but walking with God means doing things again and again you don’t feel equipped to do. Get used to it.
3. I don’t really think I need to do all this…at least not right now. 2 words…lame-o.

Let me sum up this whole post in a few sentences.

Be consistent. In everything, if God told you to do it, just do it with everything you’ve got. When you do, it opens the door for God to do more in you. After all, God loves to go where he knows his reputation is safe. I don’t know about you, but I want to say that’s right here with me.

Motivation Doesn't Last

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."
-- Zig Ziglar --

Sound familiar? "... give us this day, our daily bread..." (Matt. 6:11)

Don't Give Up
